Join percussionist Paul Stengel for an immersive introduction to the rhythms, techniques, and communal spirit of Afro-Cuban conga drumming.

In this beginner-friendly class, students will learn the fundamentals of conga playing, foundational hand techniques, and essential Afro-Cuban rhythms in a supportive group setting. Through call-and-response exercises, ensemble playing, and rhythm studies, participants will develop timing, listening skills, coordination, and confidence on the instrument.

Open to both beginner and intermediate players, this class is designed for anyone curious about rhythm, percussion, and the joy of making music together.

BIO: A San Gabriel Valley native, Paul began playing drums at age 12 before going on to study Percussion Performance at California State University, Long Beach. His studies and ongoing practice have centered around traditions of the West African Diaspora, with a deep focus on Afro-Cuban percussion and rhythm.
