Bobby Lee Bradford, was born in Mississippi on July 19, 1934. He moved to Dallas in 1946 and later settled in Los Angeles in 1953, reuniting with Ornette Coleman who he knew in Texas. He joined Coleman's group until drafted into the Air Force in 1954, later rejoining from 1961 to 1963. Afterward, he formed a notable partnership with clarinetist John Carter and led The Mo'tet post-1991. Bradford, a Huston–Tillotson College graduate, taught at Pomona College for 44 years until retiring in 2021. On July 19, 2024, Bradford will celebrate his 90th birthday with a show, surrounded by friends and musicians, at Healing Force of the Universe in Pasadena.
